5th January 2014 Second Sunday after Christmas Year A

SUNDAY 5th JANUARY 2014
SECOND SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS
For many the New Year is a time for making resolutions, to alter personal and material ways of their life.  We are called to renew our commitment to follow – “The Word made flesh” – full of grace and truth.

As Christ welcomed the Wise Men from the East we, as a believing community, should reflect the welcome of Christ always by welcoming all of those who come to our country and our community from far away seeking new beginnings as migrants or asylum seekers or refugees.

TOMORROW – MONDAY 6th JANUARY 2014 – FEAST OF THE EPIPHANY
Tomorrow is the Feast of the Epiphany.
As we enter a New Year may Christians everywhere celebrate their faith with joy and renewed hope.
MASS TIMES: MONDAY, January 6th
8.00 a.m., 10.30 a.m., & 7.00 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE WILL BE NO VIGIL OR 12.00 NOON MASSES ON THIS HOLYDAY

God’s plan for the world, the mysterious  purpose of existence, is unveiled by the coming of Christ. God wants it to be known, and it will be known, by all who follow the light of the faith leading them to Christ.
š           ›
Father, you revealed your Son to the nations by the guidance of a star lead us to your glory in heaven by the light of faith.  Amen.

The Epiphany is the manifestation of Jesus as Messiah of  Israel, Son of God and Saviour of the world.  The great feast of Epiphany celebrates the adoration of Jesus by the wise men (magi) from the East.  In the magi, representatives of the neighbouring pagan religions, the Gospel sees the first-fruits of the nations, who welcome the Good News of salvation through the Incarnation.

WEEK OF PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY – JANUARY 18th – 25th 2014

(based on 1 Corinthians 1:13)
Church Unity Week commences on Saturday, January 18th and will continue until Saturday, January 25th.  During this time we are asked to pray in a special way for unity among all Christians.
PRAYER FOR CHRISTIAN UNITY
Father of all creation through the power of your Spirit You sent in the fullness of time your Son, Jesus Christ to live among us and to make us one.  May the example of His life continue to inspire all Christians.  As we journey together towards the celebration of this New Year may the unity He signifies bind us together in love.  Amen.
