Land of Saints & Scholars – The Story of the Catholic Church in Ireland – Diocese of Elphin Edition
Bishop Kevin in his foreword to the Elphin Edition of Land of Saints and Scholars reminds us our heritage is not just past history; that this story is one we are all a part of and one still being written.
The story of ‘the faith’ here in Ireland and in particular Elphin goes back over 1,500 years to St Patrick. The ‘Land of Saints and Scholars’ launched in the three Primary Schools in Sligo Cathedral parish this week tells the story of the Catholic Church in Ireland in a beautifully illustrated format. The final chapter of the book is written by our very own Very Rev. Francis Beirne and is dedicated to the Diocese of Elphin.
Due to the generosity of six sponsors we are delighted to announce the donation of copies of the book for each and every class in the three Primary schools in our parish.
Gaelscoil Chnoc na Ré sponsors: Francis Cadden and Seamus Feehily
Scoil Eóin Naofa sponsors: Vita Forde-Monaghan and Val McMurray
Scoil Ursula sponsors: Seán Feehily and Michael McGowan
The books were presented on Tuesday 27th June 2017. A limited number are available to purchase at €15 from St Mary’s Presbytery phone: 071 9162670.
