TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Eucharist is the name that we give to our great act of worship, it is a name that means ‘giving thanks.’
Today’s readings remind us that we owe God thanks not just for healing lepers two thousand years ago, but for blessing our lives with his love and restoring them with his forgiveness.

FAITH & TRINITY WORKSHOP
Rev. Dr. Michael Duignan (St. Angela’s College) to lead workshop (11am – 3.30 pm) on Faith & The Trinity in SLIGO PARK HOTEL on Sat. October 19
th as part of Elphin Diocese’s celebration of Year of Faith.  Suggested Donation toward costs €10.  All welcome.
  

SUNDAY NEXT – WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
Theme for 2013: ‘Growing in Faith’
World Mission Sunday, which is an essential experience of worship, catechesis, and worldwide sacrifice, is a principal means of funding for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith.  There is an envelope in your envelope box. Please give generously.
We welcome Sligo Gospel Choir who will sing at the 7.30pm Vigil Mass, Saturday next, 19
th October, for Mission Sunday.

A TALK ON THE LIFE & SPIRITUALITY OF MOTHER TERESA
Takes place on Friday the 18th of October at 7pm upstairs in the Gillooly Hall. Given by Fr Ray a Missionaries of Charity Priest en route from America to take up a Missionary post in Africa. The evening will include a short video with light refreshments to follow. All most welcome.

ANNUAL ST MARTIN NOVENA
 
Takes place in Holy Cross Friary from Saturday 26
th October to Sunday 3rd November. Daily at 7.30pm Sundays at 3.30pm. The Preacher will be Fr John Walsh O.P.

SLIGO PARISHES CLUSTER PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND

This pilgrimage which is one of our Year of Faith initiatives departs Tuesday next, 15th October. Twenty two pilgrims from the Parishes in our Cluster will travel and we pray God’s blessings on the pilgrims and wish them a safe journey.

In our Cathedral Parish the WAY OF GENTLENESS, our annual celebration of the coming of the Christ Child, commences on Tuesday 3
rd December.
Our candlelit CATHEDRAL CHOIR CAROL SERVICE
takes place on Sunday 22nd December, always a special occasion, always giving a glimpse into the true meaning of Christmas.

Month of Remembrance, the month of November, are on sale from Sunday next, 20th October at the Cathedral Entrance and Sacristy priced €7 each.

INTERESTED IN BECOMING A PERMANENT DEACON IN THE DIOCESE OF ELPHIN?
The Diocese of Elphin is now accepting final applications from married / single men who may feel called to ministry as Permanent Deacons. In Galway Cathedral with a preparation Triduum of Prayer from Sat 16
th to Mon 21st October. 11am to 6pm daily. Public veneration of the Relics takes place on Tuesday, 22nd with Mass at 11am celebrated by Most Rev Martin Drennan.~

FIELDS OF LIFE

Ugandan Choir will perform in Calry Parish Church, The Mall, Sligo on Tuesday 15
th October at 7.30pm. Their visit marks  20 years work during which 107 schools have been built and numerous wells drilled, providing over 300,000 people with fresh, clean water. Please make a special effort to come along with neighbours and friends and support this worthwhile cause.  Admission is free but all donations will be gratefully received.
