Baptism of the Lord 13 Jan 2013

TODAY – 13th JANUARY 2013
THE BAPISM OF THE LORD
At his Baptism Jesus was revealed as the Son of God and began his work of bringing the vision of God, his justice and his liberation to his people. At our baptism each of us is given a share in this mission, so we become children of God.

BAPTISM IN THE CATHEDRAL PARISH
If you plan to have your child Baptised during the month of March or subsequent months you must now undertake a one night Baptismal Course which will take place in St Michael’s Family Life Centre, Church Hill on the third Thursday of every month. To book a Baptism and register for this course please contact the Parish Office on 9162670. It is necessary to attend this course prior to the Baptism of your child.

To mark Bishop Jones’ Golden Jubilee of Ordination to Priesthood in June 2012 the Baptistery at our Cathedral was refurbished in his honour.  On this Sunday, the Feast of The Baptism of the Lord the newly refurbished Baptistery will be blessed during the 12 noon Mass.  Again we thank all who made donations towards the refurbishment works.

Father of all creation through the power of your Spirit You sent in the fullness of time your Son, Jesus Christ to live among us and to make us one.  May the example of His life continue to inspire all Christians.  As we journey together towards the celebration of this New Year may the unity He signifies bind us together in love.  Amen.

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK 2014

Our Catholic schools are communities—small families in their own right, but also members of the larger community of home, church, city and nation. Faith, knowledge and service are three measures by which any Catholic school can and should be judged. This year marks the 40th Anniversary of this week of celebration and acknowledgement of the vital role of our schools.
